IBC 2006 Exhibition, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Hall 1 Booth 419 – 8 September 2006: Spacecom (Tel Aviv Stock Exchange: SCC), the AMOS satellites operator, today announced that it has secured eleven contracts with Ukrainian channels so far during 2006, reinforcing its already strong business position in the Ukraine Republic. AMOS satellites’ hot-spot located at 4°West longitude has proven especially attractive for TV channels requiring content distribution to cable head-ends for a growing number of Ukrainian operators in 2006 including: 1+1, ICTV, M1, CTB, 24Hours News, Terra TV, Gravis, NART Radio and Tonis cable networks. Spacecom has also signed contracts enabling the broadcasting of 1+1 International across the Atlantic throughout the US via the GlobeCast WorldTV and DirectTV DTH platforms, as well as the worldwide distribution of M1 International.
The Ukraine, with its growing economy, sits in a strategic area for Spacecom acting as a bridge between the CIS and Eastern and Central Europe. The addition of these networks crystallizes AMOS’ neighborhood footprint in the Ukraine and increases the satellites’ connections with the local networks whose channels run the gamut from general to news to entertainment media broadcasting. In addition, beginning in 2006, Spacecom's customers throughout Europe can benefit from encryption services offered over a ViaAccess encryption system installed in uplink stations located in the Ukraine.
Spacecom renewed satellite service agreements for multiple years with 1+1, ICTV, M1, Tonis and CTB, whereas it signed new agreements with Gravis, 24Hours News, Terra TV, NART Radio for local distribution, as well as with 1+1 international and M1 International for distribution outside the Ukraine.
According to Jehuda Amir, Spacecom’s VP Sales CIS, “It is clear that Spacecom is a strong player in the Ukrainian market and we are moving forward with more and more deals on a monthly basis. Our ability to meet the differing needs of each network enables Spacecom to act quickly and provide superior service for the Ukrainian market.”
David Pollack, Spacecom President and CEO, commented, “The growth of AMOS’ Ukrainian network proves that we are making the proper moves in a competitive space. Whether renewing leases or adding new networks to our satellites, AMOS is a constantly reliable platform and fast becoming a brand name in this market.”
