Spacecom operates the AMOS-2 and AMOS-3 satellites co-located at the 4°W orbital location, and the AMOS-5i satellite at the 17°E orbital location, delivering a wide range of communications and broadcasting services. Our service areas include Europe and the Middle East, with single-hop cross-Atlantic connectivity to the East Coast of the U.S.
AMOS-1, the first satellite operated by Spacecom, was launched in May 1996 and provided services until mid 2008. In December 2003, Spacecom launched the AMOS-2 satellite to the 4°W orbital slot, where it is slated for service through 2016.
In April 2008, the AMOS-3 satellite was successfully launched and is now co-located at our 4°W orbital location, enhancing the “hot-spot” created by the AMOS-1 and AMOS-2 satellites. A replacement for the AMOS-1 satellite, the AMOS-3 satellite broadens Spacecom's service offerings with additional capacity, expanded coverage areas and advanced capabilities, such as Ka-band and steerable beams.
AMOS-5i commenced operations in January 2010 at 17°E, a new orbital location over africa. The satellite precedes AMOS-5, the latest satellite in production in the AMOS constellation, which is scheduled to commence operational services over Africa by mid 2011. AMOS-5i provides pan-African C-Band and North-East African and Middle East Ku-Band capacity.
AMOS-5 will deliver high power C-band and Ku-band capacity to the entire African continent, with access to Europe and the Middle East.
With the scheduled launch of the AMOS-4 satellite in 2012 to an orbital location between 65°E and 70°E, Spacecom’s coverage will expand to Asia. The Ku-band and Ka-band enabled AMOS-4 satellite, will expand Spacecom’s coverage area to Southeast and Central Asia, as well as augment the AMOS-5 satellite’s coverage over Africa.
With a satellite fleet consisting of 4 satellites in 3 orbital locations, Spacecom will confirm its status as an emerging global satellite service provider, with coverage reaching more than 80% of the world’s population.
Spacecom is a publicly traded company (TASE: SCC). Its major shareholders are Eurocom, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), General Satellite Services Co. (GSSC) and Mer Services Group.
The AMOS satellite constellation offers a 4°W orbital “hot-spot” for the Middle East and Central and Eastern Europe, where AMOS satellite transmissions are received by most cable head-ends.
Spacecom provides broadcasting and communications services to DTH operators, TV broadcasters and programmers, government organizations, and VSAT network operators. The company currently serves three DTH platforms carrying more than 300 channels, including many HD channels, with a fourth DTH platform in Europe launching its commercial services towards the end of 2009. The current platforms on AMOS include: THome SatTV in Hungary, YES in Israel, and BOOM TV in Romania.
Spacecom service offering also include a wide range of value-added services:
Spacecom partners include a variety of leading broadcasters and service providers, such as: HBO (in Central and Eastern Europe), MTV (in the Ukraine and countries bordering the Adriatic Sea), National Geographic (Romania), Antenna-Hungaria and HDT (Hungary), Telespazio, IMC and RRT (the Ukraine), DRS Technologies (a leading US integrator), and many others throughout Europe and the Middle East.
The AMOS platform delivers superior G/T and EIRP over Central Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The satellite constellation’s performance and orbital position make it ideally suited for reception of DTH TV with the smallest antennas throughout their coverage regions, as well as 2-way communications delivering the highest bit-rates to remote locations, where terminals are limited in size, power, and sometimes require mobility. The co-location of the AMOS-2 and AMOS-3 satellites also enables back-up capabilities over the Middle East, Europe, and the East Coast of the U.S.
Spacecom plans to expand its satellite fleet to serve additional markets such as Africa and Asia, positioning the company as an emerging global satellite service provider. The company is currently also evaluating other international satellite ventures, including initiating and partnering in broadcasting ventures in Europe, Asia, Africa and other regions of the world.
